چکیده

Our recent VLBI observations of the prominent FR II radio galaxy Cygnus A with the EVN and the VLBA reveal a pronounced two-sided jet structure. from which we could derive the kinematics of the jet and counter-jet. On the jet side and on mas scales, the jet seems to accelerate from βapp ≈ 0.1 − 0.2 (Krichbaum et al. 1998) at core-separations near 1 mas to βapp ≈ 0.4 − 0.6 at r ≥ 4 mas (H0 = 100 km s −1 Mpc −1 , q0 = 0.5). For the first time we also measure significant structural variability on the counter-jet side. For this, we derive a motion of βapp = 0.35 ± 0.2 at r = 9.5 mas. The flat spectrum of the inner region of the counter-jet (free-free absorption) and the frequency dependence of the jet to counter-jet ratio support strong evidence for an obscuring torus in front of the counter-jet (Krichbaum et al. 1998).

Kinematic Evidence for Propagating Star Formation Induced by Ob Associations

We report the detection of expanding patterns, revealed by Hipparcos proper motions, in some OB associations. The expansion velocities exceed typical internal motions in associations, and suggest that very energetic processes may have been responsible for both the formation of the stars and their initial velocities. Observations of related interstellar gas support this explanation. One of the r...

On the origin of two-shell supernova remnants

The proper motion of massive stars could cause them to explode far from the geometric centers of their wind-driven bubbles and thereby could affect the symmetry of the resulting diffuse supernova remnants (SNRs). We use this fact to explain the origin of SNRs consisting of two partially overlapping shells (e.g. Cygnus Loop, 3C 400.2, etc.).

Kinematic signatures of violent formation of galactic OB associations from Hipparcos measurements

Proper motions measured by Hipparcos confirm the large anomalous velocities of the OB associations located around the Cygnus Superbubble (Cygnus OB1, OB3, OB7, and OB9), and reveal a clearly organized expanding pattern in Canis MajorOB1.At the distances of these associations, the organized velocity patterns imply LSR velocities of up to ∼ 60 km s−1 for the associations in Cygnus, and about ∼ 15...

Evaluating Genetic Diversity of Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus, Linnaeus, 1758) Colonies in Iran

Whooper swans have two old and new populations, the new population has reported since 2007. The current study aimed to investigate the genetic structure of this species and compare their gene pool, especially the new population. For this purpose, 110 samples from Iran and four European countries were analyzed, using six microsatelite loci. In addition to the samples of the emerging population i...

Time-sequenced Multi-radio-frequency Observations of Cygnus X-3 in Flare

Multifrequency observations from the VLA, VLBA and OVRO Millimeter Array of a major radio outburst of Cygnus X-3 in 2001 September are presented, measuring the evolution of the spectrum of the source over three decades in frequency, over a period of six days. Following the peak of the flare, as the intensity declines the high-frequency spectrum at frequency ν steepens from ν to ν, after which t...
